The Pharaoh Hound is a graceful and elegant dog. They appear
to resemble sighthounds of the Mediterranean region. They are
easily trainable, affectionate, playful and extremely good for
children, and also great with other dogs. Grooming is rarely needed.
This dog typically hunts at night, since there are less distractions.
The average life expectancy for this breed is around 13 years,
the average weight is around 55lbs, and the average height is
around 23in. Fur colors can be cream, brown, and tan.

This breed goes back roughly 2,000 years. It is the national dog of Malta, the breed was used to
course rabbits. The Pharaoh Hound remained mostly unknown in the West until a pair of them arrived
in England in the 1920s. The first Pharaoh Hounds in the U.S. were imported there in 1967 and in the
same year was recognized by the American Kennel Club.
This breed is at a higher risk for mastocytoma (mast cell tumors) than the general population of dogs.
